When I was in graduate school, it was a tragic incident to acupuncture treatment. A student of NESA had a heavy workload, and therefore she was four or five sessions of acupuncture by the students in one day. She left school that day and died of an acupuncture-induced blood clot. Well, actually they do not die … But they wanted to go blind. In one eye. Now I’m thinking when I heard later that she had gone deaf, not blind, but she never heard her. At least they do not come quickly, it took about a year to come back. Oh, wait … It was a month. A month without hearing from acupuncture therapy! It sounds incredible, but I heard it from a reliable source, a sister of a friend of a cousin of one of her teachers.

Every profession has its share of urban legends, and acupuncture is no exception. As with all urban legends, although there is usually some truth buried somewhere in the story of how this little piece of sand, the birth of the pearl begins. In the above cases, the student is treated well. I had many days where I had several treatments of the students within a short period, and the school with a headache and fatigue. But I’ve never noticed, lost all my senses, and fell into a coma after a few treatments and I or someone else who does not know. Although I do not recommend more than one treatment a day, I’m pretty sure it’s an overdose of acupuncture can not be at the end of you.

Speaking on the end, there are some who seem to think that we, acupuncturists, among our other talents, the role of “Angel of Death”. If we have these needles in the right place … BAM! The end!

This belief probably comes with all the work we are in hospices. If you work for end-of-life care … Well, you want at the end of life to see.

And young as the killing of acupuncture and healthy? A few years ago a woman died in acupuncture as a needle pierced her heart. This story is actually true, and repeated ad nauseam by acupuncture skeptic. What is too often neglected to mention that the woman who died acupuncture itself. She had no experience with and knowledge of acupuncture, and a needle into the chest cavity, causing a cardiac tamponade. Funny, I can not see a protest against the appendectomy, died when I remove my own Appendix … You? Probably not.

So let’s hear about some of the rumors about me, to complement treatments say. My personal favorite is bloodletting therapy. I get good results for patients, if I add this type of treatment. Of course, let the words of my lips over and people assume that they will be covered in leeches. Years ago, doctors used leeches all the time their blood was an anticoagulant that helps with clotting problems.

Actually, I think that some documents still use today. Although the drug leech to his credit, you will not find in my office. After I ‘Stand By Me, “there was never a chance that I bring these things in my practice. No, I Bloodlet if I have a tiny lancet to pierce a body part and put a few drops of blood. None leeches, no medieval torture instruments. Just your standard, little Lancet.

Curvatures and Gua Sha are two other complementary therapies that I use often … But be careful, because if I did not do well, the patient will die instantly. Just kidding. The truth is both Gua Sha and Cupping open to the surface of the skin, leading to a door to enter the opening of pathogens, so I always tell my patients to continue after one of these techniques deck ready.

And what happens if they do not? Well, that’s my experience with insubordination after getting a good round of Gua Sha: I went home, took a bath, and immediately went out naked in front of my air conditioner. When I awoke, I have a sore throat, runny nose, headache and, recently, I have a cold. It was a pretty bad too, which lasted several days. It was my own fault, just the opposite of what I was told, and now it’s a lesson I shared with the patient.

You may have tried acupuncture in the past, a problem or two and see how profitable a company is this ancient Chinese medicine, you might have thought an acupuncturist, is still more than that.

Acupuncture is not just something you learn from a manual or a quick two weeks of acupuncture courses. If doctors and alternative medicine practitioners, you have proper education. Fortunately, since its introduction in the U.S. in the 1970s, many schools offer courses on acupuncture and other Chinese healing. You just have to do some research on the availability of schools and classes in your area.

What is acupuncture? There is an alternative medically process for to stimulate the piercing of the a very fine needle in the specific points in the skin and correction of the flow of life force / life energy in the body as “Chi” is known.

Before an acupuncture practice to adopt, you need training and proper education. There are many schools and medical facilities, the courses on acupuncture. You should also be aware that the licensing requirements for each state, especially if you plan to build your practice elsewhere. A good place for information on acupuncture schools, acupuncture National Alliance website. The site also contains a list down licensing requirements for each state. Subscribe Make sure your choices down list of schools in

Check the website for the school and ask if you can add information about their courses, acupuncture and other necessary requirements. Because acupuncture is one of the alternative medicine disciplines that you need for general medical subjects such as biology, anatomy, physiology and psychology to study. Will be offered, depending on the course, you have to study for 2 to 4 years. If you need, you will receive financial support if you enroll in an accredited institution.

The initial training in an accredited school is also necessary if you have received your certificate from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture. So be sure to do your research on the right school. You do not want to end up at 2 to 4 years of your life, always training, only to discover that you do not exercise, acupuncture, waste, because the school is not accredited, you are visiting.

There are many benefits of acupuncture, except for Chinese acupuncture, you may consider sub-specialty training in other related healing arts such as massage, reflexology or Chinese herbal medicine.

Pain in the soft tissue decay often starts immediately after needling therapy and even disappear within a few days. After the depth of penetration, are working the mechanisms of peripheral normalization of the soft tissue dysfunction. Without a central command of the brain and spinal cord, however, not peripheral organs will not function without central coordination, making the role of the CNS is important. Even if it focuses on clinically observable and measurable physical parameters, such as muscle balance, the basic background of the central mechanism needling for understanding the peripheral mechanisms is indispensable.

The neurochemical mechanisms of acupuncture analgesia have been studied thoroughly in many Chinese, Japanese, Korean and American universities. He Laboratory Medical University in Beijing, and Pomeranz, laboratory at the University of Toronto has provided solid scientific data to the neurochemical processes to explain acupuncture analgesia.

The explanation of acupuncture analgesia simplified for this textbook. For example, be transferred in accordance pain impulses that reaches the spinal cord, at least six trails, that the impulses from the spinal cord to the cerebral cortex, and many neurotransmitters be released on the various players so as modulation of the pain signals, including three different endorphins (enkephalin, β-endorphin, and the dynorphin), acetylcholine , cholecystokinin, serotonin, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), somatostatin, substance P, vasoactive intestinal peptide, neurotensin, CGRP, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), adrenaline and noradrenaline, and cytokines. Other substances can be detected in addition to this long list. But a detailed description of the interaction between neurotransmitters beyond the scope of this book.

The goal of the penetration depth of treatment is the integration of physiological systems. This integration is achieved by with the the normalization of the interference, which could must be be caused by local, state or systemic disease.

The neurochemical mechanisms of needling provide analgesia (pain relief), homeostasis, and promote tissue healing, improvement of the immune system, digestive system, cardiovascular system and the endocrine system and promoting psychological adjustment to systemic integration. The integrated nature of the of these mechanisms explains why problems as diverse as asthma, tinnitus, irritable bowel syndrome, and ulcers are all improved compared to penetration is recognized immerse you in the the treatment of pain. Sewing therapy, the body’s own control and promotes self-healing by systemic integration, which is suppressed during illness or injury.

Systemic integration of physiological and anatomical characteristics, even the human body by means of ISDN treated patients is a the activation of the reflex points circuit length of different levels in the nervous system: those segments of it is the spinal cord, brain strain, the hypothalamus and thalamus, the upper part of the limbic system- and cortex.

Most people I talk hielte acupuncture, but would like something more about the treatment and how they know so much more. Here are the five questions that almost every patient asks before beginning treatment.

Is Acupuncture?
Yes, acupuncture has worked for centuries, and each time with different circumstances. Modern research has shown acupuncture to be effective, and many doctors are even called acupuncturists to their patients for treatment.

How acupuncture works?
Acupuncture helps the body to achieve balance by stimulating different points in the body meridians. The needles are inserted into meridians to balance the energy flow called Qi. With a good energy flow and balance is restored, all organs and systems work in harmony and the body begins to heal itself.

No, acupuncture does not hurt. The needles used in acupuncture are very fine and cause no or only mild pain when it is inserted into the meridians. Many patients, including needle phobia, and noted that she felt very little, and say they feel more relaxed during the acupuncture session because they remain a long time.

How important is the cost of acupuncture?
Acupuncture is very affordable and usually in the range between $ 50 and $ 75 per treatment. The cost depends on the duration, number of stimulated points, and when electrical stimulation is used. Many insurance costs of the acupuncture session.

It is believed that acupuncture can help with many health problems, including a variety of pain, headaches, sickness, mental problems, etc. Although they are not actually scientific evidence that acupuncture may be useful for the treatment of all these health problems, this therapy has been popular because people report that it has helped them.

Most of the people who are interested in trying acupuncture treatment is usually a bit and maybe even fear because they do not know exactly what you expect of these strange Chinese therapy. I give you a few tips that you should read before a visit to the acupuncturist.

1) Do not be afraid – there is almost never painful.

In 95% of cases, it does not hurt when the needles are inserted into the body when you are relaxed. Is it mainly because acupuncture needles are much thinner than normal needles. Furthermore, they never placed deep and in some cases (especially Japanese acupuncture) needle just touching your skin, without the involvement of everyone.

2) Do not worry – you will not lie there naked.

Acupuncture points are all over my body and what is the use of acupuncture depends on the diagnosis. It’s very popular to use points on the back, feet and ears. Normally you only a small part of your body to detect. You can expect the acupuncturist is some 15-30 needles are used.

3) Do not worry – you can change your mind and body relax.

If you have a pleasant and comfortable therapy, it is better to relax and maybe even fall asleep for a while. Can it actually be very useful and make treatment more effective. Try not to move your body too much when the needle is inserted into the body because it can cause some pain.

4) Be patient – the results are usually not fast.

People usually feel energy and revitalized after their first acupuncture treatment, but almost always takes several procedures to see what the long term results. Do not expect all your pain to go away after the first time – instead, try to visit an acupuncturist, for example, twice a week for a month and check your progress.

5) Be smart – know when to stop.

It is certainly not wise to stop after the first method, just because your symptoms are gone, but it is useless to waste your time and money as acupuncture does not work for you, of course. If you already have your 10th Treatment and have experienced no improvement, then it is probably time to stop and try something else.

6) Be careful – select only qualified therapists.

If during treatment, be sure to check at least if your therapist is a member of a professional organization of acupuncture. Acupuncture is generally very safe and harmless procedure, but only if performed by a qualified professional.

It may be the best advice a doctor before you use it, but many keep it safe this ancient Chinese treatment, while reducing the diluted substances.

Acupuncture include the use of thin, sterile needles to the to be channels, along which the negative energy can be deduced to open it. Specific points is addressed into based on the body depending on the condition, or symptoms, the patient is suffering. For example, becomes, as a one are trying to recover problems with fertility, laid down tanks changes of track, which a position to with the the reproductive organs, which corresponds to the the–specific.

I remember the first time I have someone in the class. We were fire-cupping the whole week at school and I was eager to try it on a willing victim. The perfect opportunity came a month later: a first date!

As usual, I had all my life in my car … Acupuncture with my new mug. I do not remember exactly how it happened, but this guy started to ask myself whether acupuncture, and somehow the topic came cupping. I said, with a set of cups in my car, and he was curious. The next thing I knew I had stretched him on his living room floor with a naked torso.

Fortunately, the man was a mess, so I had plenty to work with. When I cupped him, he was with large purple markings in the area of a previous shoulder injury. Impressed by my work, I decided to use the sliding method to really work the kinks. I straddled him, tube of Vaseline in his hand … only interrupted by the arrival of his unsuspecting roommate. Embarrassing.

Now, many practitioners use cupping in their practice, but most tend to have plastic cups that can be drawn on the skin to settle. I do not. I am all about drama. I prefer the traditional fire-cupping, where there is an element of danger involved. In the fire-cupping arm glass cups are used. A piece of cotton wool held with tweezers and set on fire, turned around on the inside of the cup. Flame sucks all the oxygen out of the cup, and then the cup is pressed against the skin quickly. Due to lack of oxygen, suction cup firmly to the skin. This suction breaks the stagnation in the muscles, giving a deep massage.

We use it for other acupuncturists questions cupping, as well. It need not be used for musculoskeletal problems and the current can also be used in order to stimulate acupuncture points. Is the it is usual to use the cups of in the the the lungs to relieve asthma, and the also used to pathogens (eg colds) spread-. Small bowls can stimulate acupuncture points instead of needles.

One of my favorite techniques is called Ranchi ho, and I find it highly effective for many areas where there is too much Qi or heat in the upper part of the body. During a session high of Ranchi, small incisions in the skin, and then the curved area. The release of the blood leads to a state of relaxation, mind blowing. It’s great for stress, insomnia, restlessness and even though it sounds ridiculous, patients often ask me!

One of the coolest things about cupping is the physical evidence of stagnation, as shown when it’s done well. There are two types of cupping: stationary and moving. Idling is good stationary. The cup sits on the skin can not be moved. Sliding cup of is with a kind of lubricant such as petroleum jelly Taken.

After the skin must be prepared with the lubricant, the shell is up-and-drop moves back of the patient. If there is no stagnation, skin red, but then quickly disappears again to its normal shadow. If it is a division of stagnation, but small red dots to rise to the surface. These items seem true, and we call it “sha”. If enough of stagnation that the points become almost black, and the patient with dark purple markings that are left to fade in a few days. It is truly amazing. I can access a patient’s entire back buckets to use, and only the area of pain will be left with spores. It is like a roadmap of pain.

So what exactly is involved in turning a breech baby with acupuncture?

Well, in most cases, the acupuncturist will use Moxa. This treatment protocol is more than 1,000 years old and has been developed in China. Moxa is an extremely compressed wort (Artemisia vulgaris), in the form of a cigar Store stick. Moxa is near the little toe pregnant burned. There is no need for needles and women only feel a pleasant feeling of warmth in the area.

After verifying that there is a contraindication to therapy, acupuncture, treatment with moxa to do what the woman (and possibly a partner) of the procedure at the same time.

The same procedure should be repeated at home in 10 days for a full explanation and moxibustion get enough to treat it.

What is the procedure?

The process is very simple.

    1) At the end of the moxa stick is lit with a candle or a lighter. If your hand 2 ~ 3 cm away from the burning end of the stick, you will feel a pleasant feeling of warmth.
2) Hold the end of the burning moxa ~ 2 3 cm above BL67, on the corner of the little toe with a chopping motion.
3) the treatment of a silk around 5 minutes, and the than the second is still 5 minutes. The total treatment duration should be 20 minutes once or two times a day, depending on the stage of the pregnancy.

Women usually experience a greater activity of the baby being carried out during treatment and sometimes afterwards.

Sometimes the child gets after a few treatments. Sometimes it will only turn on the last of the 10 days, so it is important to provide treatment until the end. Interestingly, when the child for 10 days, experience shows that it is not back to breech presentation, if you have treatment.

It is usually recommended to initiate 34-36 weeks pregnant, the baby has more room to run. However, it can be used to full term.

Moxibustion can also be useful even if the woman decides to ECV (ECV) to help and to get the baby turning. The treatment can be done before and after the ECV and can contribute to a more successful ECV.
